1841 Pennsylvania $1 Relief Note—Farmers Bank of Bucks County, Bristol—Cut-Canceled
An original one-dollar banknote issued by the Farmers Bank of Bucks County, Bristol, Pennsylvania, dated June 18, 1841.
The engraved design features a milkmaid standing beside two cows, surrounded by portrait medallions and ornamental denomination panels. Handwritten signatures of the cashier and president remain visible along the lower margin. The reverse is blank, as issued.
Part of Pennsylvania’s 1841 relief-note series, the note refers to the Act of Assembly of May 4, 1841. It offers an appealing example of local bank-issued currency from the decades before the Civil War.
Heavily circulated, with faded printing, age toning, folds, edge tears and chipping. Two cross-shaped cancellation cuts are present, one with an open hole and paper loss. Sold ungraded, with these faults clearly shown in the photographs.
A modestly priced piece of early Pennsylvania banking history.
