Published only a few years before the outbreak of the American Revolution, the Pennsylvania Chronicle became one of colonial America's most important newspapers. Founded by William Goddard in 1767, it championed colonial rights and would later emerge as one of the leading patriotic newspapers opposing British rule. Its influence was so significant that British postal authorities eventually restricted its distribution because of its anti-government stance.
